Knowing when and what links your recipients click in your outbound messages can be very handy.

We're excited to announce that you can now set up click tracking for all the outbound messages you send through AppMail.

How does it work?

In order to track a click we need to rewrite the links in your messages to go via our service. To ensure deliverability is maintained, we rewrite links to a sub-domain of your domain for example click.yourdomain.com so to get started you'll need to tell us what domain you want to use and point the DNS to us.

Once you've set up your tracking domain, we'll automatically rewrite anything that looks like a URL and whenever it is clicked by your recipient we'll log it, send you a webhook notification (if configured) and redirect the user to your original URL.

How can I get started?

To begin, just head over to our web interface, open up the mail server you wish to add tracking to and navigate to Domains and then Tracking Domains.

Then, follow the instructions to add a new tracking domain, add a CNAME record to point it to track.appmail.io and press the 'Test DNS now' link.

Once this is done, we'll automatically start rewriting your links for you. You can send a test email to see how it works.

Is this secure?

When you add your tracking domain, we'll automatically set up an SSL certificate with Let's Encrypt for you so the rewritten URL will be rewritten to use https:// regardless of the underlying URL.
